Abstract:

Automotive engineers have been investigating the use of precise digital road map data in automobile active safety, driver information and vehicle efficiency applications. When combined with GPS-based vehicle positioning technology, the digital map serves as a long-range "sensor" with a range that far exceeds any other sensing technology found in vehicles. This extended view of the road ahead creates a vehicle-based situation awareness and predictive ability that enhances many safety and efficiency applications, and fills an important void between on-board near-field vehicle sensors and the far-range and temporal information we expect to see with intelligent road infrastructure and ad-hoc network deployments. Please attend this session and learn how on-board map databases fill a vital role between autonomous vehicle controls and intelligent highways.

About the Speaker:

Kevin Moran is an automotive industry executive with more than twenty years experience in automotive embedded controllers, sensors, telematics, mobile wireless and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). With NAVTEQ, Kevin executes the initiative for digital map augmentation of ADAS applications. Prior to NAVTEQ Kevin was with Spotwave Wireless, a startup company with unique mobile wireless signal enhancement technology and Motorola, where he was Director, Telematics Communications Group. In this role, he launched first and next-generation Telematics products for automotive OEMs around the world. Kevin received his BSME from the University of Michigan.
