January 25, 2010

Caitlin Cottrill, CTS Fellow, will present a seminar entitled "Surveying Privacy" on Monday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 1000 SEO.

Abstract:

The adoption of ITS applications and location based services such as those proposed for the ITA are dependent in part upon the consumer's willingness to share potentially sensitive information with outside entities. As part of my dissertation research, I will be conducting a survey to help determine some baseline consumer privacy preferences related to transportation in the context of the ITA. This presentation will provide both information related to privacy concerns in the mobile environment, and an opportunity for others to provide feedback in terms of data needs and potential applications of the ITA so that the forthcoming survey may use the proposed ITA as a case study for privacy needs and concerns.

Biography:

Caitlin Cottrill is a fourth year Ph.D. student at the Urban Transportation Center in the College of Planning and Public Affairs. Her primary research subject is privacy and surveillance in ITS and LBS with a secondary interest in bicycle and pedestrian safety. Caitlin's primary advisor is Vonu Thankuriah, with Bob Sloan as her secondary advisor.
