CTS welcomes Dr. Aurelius Bernet, Metropolitan Space Laboratory, Scientific Association for Urban Simulation and Optimization, Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Bernet will present a seminar on Monday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m. in Room 1000 SEO.

Abstract: Our investigations have shown a direct link between the urban and economic development. Urban processes and future development of cities do not happen by chance. They follow certain principles, which can be described mathematically.

In the Metropolitan Urban Simulation for each location the potential value of development can be calculated and visualized according to the impacts of urban planning. If changes are made, the effects can be detected throughout the defined area. This methodology helps to recognize the regularities and development potentials of cities, regions or whole countries.

In order to let development potentials become effective in the context of measures concerning town construction, the resulting studies supply the basis. In the simulation the effects of planning variants can be made visible and it can make suggestions for measures to be taken in urban planning, to optimize the future development of cities concerning economic factors and town construction.

Biography: Aurelius Bernet is Principal, Metropolitan Space Laboratory, Scientific Association for Urban Simulation and Optimization,in Zurich, Switzerland.
