Please join us at 2:30 pm in Rm 1000 SEO. Leon Stenneth, CS PhD candidate and IGERT Associate, will present a seminar entitled "Privacy-Aware Location Based Systems". Abstract: With the rapid advancement of positioning and tracking capabilities (GPS enabled mobile phones, on-board navigation systems, Wi-Fi positioning) location based services are rapidly increasing. Although location based services have seen this fast growth in the number of subscribers, they create vulnerabilities that can be exploited to create privacy and security violations. Therefore, location data of mobile users must be appropriately protected. A knowledge of location may lead to stalking, tracking or unwanted advertisements sent to mobile clients. Sensitive queries submitted by the mobile clients should also be protected. This talk will focus on methods for protecting location and query privacy. Biography: Leon joined the PhD program at UIC in the Fall of 2008. He is an IGERT Associate, and a student in the Department of Computer Science. He works under the guidance of his advisors, Dr. Ouri Wolfson and Dr. Philip Yu. His research interests includes privacy-aware computing, location based services and context-awareness. |
