Dr. Glenn Geers, Technology Director of the Infrastructure, Transport & Logistics Business Team, NICTA, will present a seminar entitled "Introduction to Cooperative ITS" on Wednesday, October 26, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 1000 SEO

Abstract:
Cooperative ITS is the new buzz word in transportation circles. And like all buzz words it's overutilized, mistaken and misunderstood. In this talk I will describe what C-ITS really is and explain why it is set to takeover a transportation system near you.

Biography:
Dr. Glenn Geers is the Technology Director of the Infrastructure, Transport & Logistics business team at NICTA; Australia's Centre of Excellence for Information and Communication Technology research. He is a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales; and is a member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and the Association for Computing Machinery. Glenn holds honours degrees in electrical engineering and theoretical physics and received his PhD in the field of computational electromagnetism. Prior to joining NICTA in 2005 Glenn worked on biometrics, image processing and distributed systems at CSIRO and in private industry. Glenn is on academic, government and industry transport advisory panels both in Australia and overseas. He is active in promoting the use of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications (DSRC) in Australia and is a member of the AusDSRC Steering Committee. Glenn is a Board Member of ITS Australia.
