Dr. Thanasis Ziliaskopoulos, "Traffic Operations Modeling"

Dr. Thanasis Ziliaskopoulos

Time: 1:30 pm
Location: 1047 Engineering Research Facililty (ERF), 842 W. Taylor St.

Dr. Ziliaskopoulos will discuss the 3 basic types of traffic operations modeling: micro, macro and meso, emphasizing the shift in mesomodeling from fluid-flow dynamics to cell transmission theory.

Bio:

Prof. Ziliaskopoulos is the President of Vista Transport Group, and affiliated with Northwestern University, Rutgers University and the University of Thessaly. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas in Transportation Systems and his MS in Operations Research from the same university. He is an internationally known expert on Dynamic Network Modeling with applications both on traffic and freight applications. He has participated in at least 50 studies (in most of them as a PI) on developing solutions for transportation systems. He has developed methods for efficient simulation of large scale networks and dynamic traffic assignment. He is an Associate Editor or in the Editorial Board in the leading Journals in the field (Transportation Systems, Transportation Research-B, Networks and Spatial Economics, Intelligent Transportation Systems) where he has extensively published on these topics. He is a member of the Network Modeling Committee of TRB and past Chair of the Network Equilibrium subcommittee.
