First International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science
Registration info now available

NSF-funded researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) are organizing the first International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science, to be held in July 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. The workshop, accepted to be collocated with the Fifth Annual International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems: Computing, Networking and Services, is inviting submissions of technical papers incorporating themes of information management and communication, software tools and services, and human factors related to technology. Professors Ouri Wolfson (Program Chair) and Peter Nelson (General Chair) and Piyushimita (Vonu) Thakuriah have assembled a technical program committee of international experts in the fields of information technology, computer science, urban planning, civil engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering and geography. Professors Wolfson, Nelson and Thakuriah are PI and Co-PIs on the NSF-Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) in Computational Transportation Science (CTS) at UIC.

The First International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science will define and promote the new discipline being established by the CTS IGERT program. CTS combines computer science and engineering with the modeling, planning, and economic aspects of transportation. The discipline goes beyond vehicular technology, and addresses pedestrian systems on hand-held devices, non-real-time issues such as data mining, as well as data management issues above the networking layer.
