Artificial Intelligence

James is a Ph.D. student in the department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His primary research interest is in artificial intelligence focusing on techniques related to data-mining, social-networks, security, and human-computer interaction. He received his B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2006.

During his last undergraduate semester he worked with Dr. Barbara Di Eugenio (Computer Science), studying and evaluating the performance of various machine learning algorithms within the context of a novel automatic text summarization framework. Prior to his graduate studies, James had the opportunity to work for telecommunications firm Tellabs, and mobile device leader Motorola.

His research is currently focused around the multi-faceted problem of dynamic ridesharing -- specifically, developing computational solutions to the inherent social issues -- under the guidance of his advisors, Dr. Peter Nelson (Computer Science) and Dr. Abolfazl Mohammadian (Civil and Materials Engineering).
