Troy Hernandez is a PhD candidate in the department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at UIC. His research interests lie in statistical learning, primarily classification in bioinformatics and regression in GPS-enabled environments. He received his B.S. and B.A in 2006 and his M.S. in 2008, all from UIC.

His current work within transportation concentrates on predicting bus arrival times and minimizing location-based data transmission. His work in bioinformatics concentrates on phylogenetic classification of viruses using statistical analyses of their genomes. His primary advisor is Prof. Jie Yang. He is also co-advised by Prof. Jakob Eriksson (CS) and Prof. Stephen Yau.
