Joel Booth has completed his PhD.

Congratulations, Joel!

Joel is a Ph.D student in the department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His research interest are diverse, but primarily focus on semantic data modeling and the use natural language in data retrieval. He received his B.A. in Computer Science with a minor in Computational Mathematics from Kalamazoo College in 2005.

His current research focuses on building a semantic model of transportation using OWL-DL web ontologies that have additionally been annotated with information from a number of natural language lexicons. This context-driven semantic model will be used in a range of location based service applications for intelligent transportation systems. A robust natural language interface will be built on top of the model to allow for convenient user interaction. Joel's IGERT advisor is Dr. Ouri Wolfson and has additionally been working with Dr. Barbara DiEugenio and Dr. Isabel Cruz.
